"You have to know a Shade more than the Horse to teach them anything"
It takes years until you will ride a horse in a comfortable and skilled way. This is no different at our ranch. But the longest journey starts with the first steps. Our "Earn Your Spurs" lessons don’t only focus on how to ride horses but also how to be around them, how they behave, how to groom and tack them and how to take care of them.
Unlike in a riding school, you will get the opportunity to have a look "backstage" with us. Horses are incredible and complex animals, we love and respect them and try to initiate the same in our students.
In small groups up to 6 students you can gain the skills for the next stages: A Mountain Day Ride, a Pack Trip or the Season’s Pass membership.
Our weekend sessions will cover:
- Safety around horses
- Horse behaviour and why it is important to know about it
- Catching, leading and tying a horse safely
- Grooming and tacking
- Basic riding skills, riding in all 3 gaits (if progress allows)
- Full Day ride including lunch on the trail on Sunday – practice skills, learn about riding on the trail
